Highlands dominates Covington Catholic in 61-0 blowout

Worst defeat in history between the two schools

by Bret Sims

Usually when a team is missing its first and second-string running backs it wouldn’t be expected to win but Highlands did just that and in fact they crushed their Northern Kentucky nemesis 61-0.

Playing without Josh Conner and Clint Crawford the Bluebirds jumped out to a 21-0 lead before the Colonels even knew what hit them.

Austin Collinsworth started the game off with a bang as he took the kickoff back 86-yards for pay dirt. Tyler Fennell added to the scoring with two TD runs of his own.

It only got worse for the Colonels as the Bluebirds scored 34-points in the second quarter as Tony Guidugli ran for two touchdowns and threw for a third on a 42-yard strike to Austin Collinsworth.

The game couldn’t have gone any better for Highlands who prior to the game recognized the 1998 state champions who had set 10 state and one national record during their run.

However even with the lopsided victory Highlands coach Dale Mueller kept the game in perspective wen he said “We’re playing well, but we still have to improve. We’re not satisfied. This isn’t the end. Nothing’s ever as good as it seems; nothing’s ever as bad as it seems.”
