Rams clinch share of GCL Central
Division
Badin’s Zach Toerner scores 5 more TDs
by Bret Sims
Badin’s senior QB Zach Toerner
continues to add to his amazing touchdown total as he racked up
two more on the ground (16 total for the year) and three more
through the air (13 total for the year) as his Ram’s rolled over
Roger Bacon 38-21.
Toerner rushed for a career-high 29
times for 150 yards and threw for 272 more as he completed 15 of
22 passes Friday night at Bron Bacevich Memorial Stadium.
The win clinched at least a share
of the Greater Catholic League Central Division championship for
the Rams.
Roger Bacon fell behind 21-0 before
they even knew what hit them as the Ram’s scored two touchdowns
within 16 seconds of each other. The first came on a 1-yard
scamper by Toerner on their opening drive which was followed up
by a 2-yard TD run after teammate Jake Wurzelbacher returned an
interception to the Spartans 2-yard line.
“I thought I got in the end zone…I
really want to see that film”, said Wurzelbacher with a big
smile on his face.
"We knew if we got up on top that
they weren't going to come back," Toerner said. "We feel like
we're on a mission, and we're not going to slow down for
anyone."
Wurzelbacher had quite a night for
himself as he added two touchdown catches and a 29-yard field
goal.
Both Alex Rieman (103 yards and 1
TD) and Scott Staarmann (109 yard) helped the Ram’s continue
their offensive outburst as they have done all season.
Bacon’s Jorian Hudson had a solid
night in his own right as he ran for 110 yards and found the end
zone twice in a losing effort. Any other night that might have
been enough to lead his team to victory.
"We tried to put pressure on (Toerner),
but we knew that's when he was most dangerous," Roger Bacon
coach Kevin Huxel said.
